Free Content Management System

How to start using SIM+CMS™

A good start is a good beginning so we hope to get you on the right track. As most systems you first need to login to the system.

The backoffice access for simplus is always the next URL:

<websitedomain>/simplus_cms

For example on our demo site this whould be:

http://demo.simpluscms.com/simplus_cms/

Once you get to the login page you can expect to see the next screen.

login screen
We recommend to use the "Remember my ID on this computer in case you use a private computer. We recommend not to use this switch when accessing the system from within a Internet cafe or any other public domain.

It might happen that the system looses your credentials in case your ISP changes for example you IP-address, or in case of Virtual hosting, the hosting company restarts teh application pool. When you use this option you will automaticly get logged into the system again.

In case you check this option you don't have to login to the system again next time you enter the system. The system automaticly logs you in. In case you want to stop this you will need to press the Logout button on the top right of the screen when you are within the system.

Important to get familiar with the navigation within the system so lets look at the user interface after you login. If correct you will see the next screen.

First thing you will notice is that you see a message box pop-up. This message box communicates all type of information such as:

  1. Your Login (Welcome message)
  2. Updates within the system
  3. Rollbacks
  4. Errors

Etc….

The user interface is organized in a way so that you will see, in every situation, the following areas:

  1. Top-bar containing:
    a. Bread-crumbs, quick navigation to parent pages.
    b. Search
    c. Logout
  2. Desktop having programmable icons to shortcuts
  3. On-Line Help; with links to 'How to' subjects that correspond the topics you are currently look at.
  4. Utility Panel containing:
    a. Logout
    b. Quick Links
    c. Utilities Tabs (depending on your access rights)
    • Manage Content
    • Manage Users
    • Manage Logs
    • Diagnostics
    • Tools
    d. Recycle Bin

The desktop is a good place to start, in the initial desktop you will find icons named Home Page and Sitemap. These icons, if set correctly (see Tools > System options), will start-up the corresponding pages within Browse Mode.

While in Browse mode you can navigate your web-site in very similar way as you normally would. From here you can browse to the page you wish to edit and then simply press the Edit Button.

Other ways to navigate to the page you wish to edit are by using:

  1. 'Manage Content' Icon on desktop
  2. Quick Links within the Utility panel
  3. Click on ‘Manage Content’ Tab within the Utility Panel
  4. Or use the search feature on the right top of the screen
Other areas that are of interest when you start using the system and which we will discuss next are:
  1. How do I add new content/folders?
  2. How do I add new users or user groups?
  3. How do I change settings within the system?
  4. How do I track who did what?
